Last night was the 12th annual Match Against Poverty crack off in Saint Etienne, with Zinedine Zidane roping in an entire constellation of his peers for the occasion.
The likes of Ronaldo, Cafu, Clarence Seedorf, Youri Djorkaeff, Jay-Jay Okocha, Didier Drogba and Edwin van der Sar were all numbered among the 40-odd legendary names cobbled together by Zizou, charged with squaring off against a St-Etienne XI that included former players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kurt Zouma.
Saint-Etienne ran out 9-7 winners over Ronaldo, Zidane & Friends in the end, though a jolly good time was had by all and plenty of money was raised to aid Ebola recovery across Africa.
Goal of the night saw Ronaldo and Zizou rolling back the years with a bit of silky(ish) combination play on the edge of the St Etienne box before the Brazilian tucked a smart shot inside the far post…
