Saturday night saw Central Coast Mariners throw a testimonial evening for retiring captain Josh ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson, with the 35-year-old defender bowing out after making 268 appearances for the A-League side.
The light-hearted game saw several club mascots take to the pitch at one point, though when one particular giant bottle of barbecue sauce started getting a little too rowdy it was left to Mariners centre-half Brent Griffiths to chop it back down to size again – quite literally.
In fact, Griffiths was shown a straight red card for his crimes against condiments…
We wish we could come up with a suitable sauce-based pun at this juncture but frankly we’re far too hung-over.
Indeed, it seems like novelty-sized sauce bottles are a bit of a ‘thing’ at the Mariners, though quite why is anybody’s guess…
O…kay.
