Scoring 50 international goals is no mean feat. It’s not the kind of thing that tends to happen by accident.

For that, our cap is definitely doffed to Wayne Rooney, who brought up his half century for England with a spot-kick against the Swiss last night (he’s still 17 goals behind Robbie Keane, mind you).

Here’s all 50 of Rooney’s goals (beginning with his first, against Macedonia in 2003), though the most entertaining aspect of the compilation is watching his hairline going in and out like the tide in the Bay of Fundy…

The worst thing they ever did was house-train him, some time in 2008/09.

Oh well, kudos anyway Wayne.

One of the things I thought about that video is the ever decreasing quality of players celebrating with Rooney, it starts off with so many legends such as Scholes, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Neville, Ferdinand, Terry and Cole, goes through some good solid players who performed well for England such as Hargreaves, Carrick, Defoe Joe Cole and yes Heskey! Then ends with him surrounded by plodders like Milner, Welbeck and Jagielka… It’s no wonder people criticise him for never reaching the heights with England it seemed like early on, he’s had to deal with worse and worse team mates over the last 10 years

I dunno who the winger is at 5:10 but he bamboozled that defender. It is pretty impressive that so few of his goals have come from pens.
