Sheffield Wednesday will travel to the south coast with a two-goal lead in the this Championship play-off semi-final after the Owls downed the Seagulls 2-0 at Hillsborough on Friday night. Ross Wallace and Kieran Lee scored the goals for the hosts, with Wallace producing a fine long-range strike.

Wednesday thought they had taken the lead through Fernando Forestieri, only for ref Andre Marriner to correctly rule the effort out for offside. Then, Scottish winger Wallace popped up with a cracking strike on the stroke of half-time…

The Seagulls’ hopes of getting themselves back into the game were severely dashed by injuries on the night to four players, leaving them down to 10 men for the final half-hour of the game.

Carlos Carvalhal’s Wednesday side eventually took advantage of the extra player, with Lee firing home on 73 minutes to put the Owls in the driving seat ahead of the second-leg.
