It took a last-gasp penalty from Lionel Messi to give Barcelona a hard-fought 3-2 away to Valencia at the Mestalla on Saturday. However, that winning goal triggered some rather igly scenes, with some of the fans launching bottles at the celebrating Barca players.

Messi’s winner, in the 94th minute of the game, was his second of the game for Barcelona. However, the Valencia fans were less than happy with the late body blow, raining down bottles on the victors.

One of the bottles landed right in the middle of a huddle of Barca stars, with Neymar apparently hit in the face by the (thankfully) plastic bottle. While the bottle-throwing was utterly inexcusable, the reactions of Neymar and Luis Suarez in particular seemed rather over the top…

One imagines poor old Neymar will survive the silly attack. Although Valencia will no doubt be expecting some kind of punishment for the stupidity of their fans.

The wins sees Barca go top of La Liga, at least temporarily, having played a game more than their rivals.
