Tuesday night saw South Shields beat Consett on their own turf down in Division One of the EBAC Northern League.
Consett found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 stuffing, but the defeat would’ve been even heavier were it not for the heroic efforts of their goalkeeper, Peter Jeffries, who pulled off a mind-bogglingly brilliant reaction save to keep the score respectable.
Here it is, but be warned: Your brain may well implode if you even begin to comprehend how Jeffries, a scaffolder by day, pulled this one off!
Not only did we witness one of the goals of the season last night, but also one of the best saves! Well done @ConsettAFC‘s @peter_jeffries! pic.twitter.com/lqTAbL2AGv

Even the experts were left utterly perplexed…
I’ve tried to analyze this save but I’ve watched 20 times and still don’t know how he did it. Magnificent goalkeeping from @peter_jeffries https://t.co/FcWE4WKpiu

Instinctive, nimble, beautiful and jammy – all in equal measure.
Either way, we think FIFA can go ahead and call off their ‘Save of the Year’ hunt for 2016/17.
