A troublesome hip injury may have ruled him out of the latest England squad, but Jamie Vardy will be able to make do with the knowledge that he is now central in the Metropolitan Police’s ongoing fight against domestic terrorism.

Indeed, the Leicester City striker is the star of the latest missive from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Unit, a campaign designed to teach solid citizens how to react properly in the event of an attack.

Equating Vardy’s ascension from non-league football to the protocol involved in reporting a major terrorist incident, the accompanying advert is as powerful as it is confusing…

He may have cut his teeth playing for the Stocksbridge Park Steels in society’s gritty underbelly for a time, but even a concrete-chinned geezer like Jamie Vardy isn’t too tough to phone in an incident to his local constabulary.
