As you’ve no doubt seen, Egypt left it until the last possible moment to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, with Mohamed ‘nerves of steel’ Salah tucking away a 94th-minute penalty against Congo to seal the deal.

Bedlam ensued inside the stadium in Alexandria, with Egyptian fans rendered utterly ecstatic at reaching their first World Cup in almost 30 years.

At home it was a similar story, with some of the older heads reduced to sheer silent, teary-eyed euphoria…

I’m not crying YOU’RE crying! Just a little dusty in the room is all… Wonderful stuff though. Football can be a truly lovely part of the world sometimes.

What a beautiful thing it can be to shed a wee tear when football gives you too much of joy. Good for him, I love his country and, certainly, all egyptians deserved that to happen.
