Historically speaking, AC Milan are a club synonymous with stylish attire and refined elegant football.

However, for a brief moment back in 2000 that cool facade slipped ever so slightly when Rossoneri teammates Gennaro Gattuso, Alessandro Costacurta, Massimo Ambrosini and Andriy Shevchenko appeared together on Italian TV show Mai dire Gol (Never Say Goal!).

In fact, the quartet were made to look just a wee bit silly as they joined forces with comedic trio Gialappa’s Band for a song and, even more embarrassingly, a dance…

Attilio Lombardo and Gianluca Pagliuca in there too, for connoisseurs of late 1990s/early 2000s calcio.

As for Mai dire Gol – which we assume was the Italian equivalent of Soccer AM or thereabouts – this 1995 closing title sequence was a bit special too, featuring several Serie A coaches (including Fabio Capello and Sven Goran Eriksson) singing a jolly song about a banana…

Blimey, Capello has never looked further from his comfort zone.

That’s just ace broadcasting, whichever way you look at it.
