Yet another of the many pitfalls of video-assistant refereeing was laid bare in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Monday night as Boavista fell to a 3-0 defeat against Desportivo Aves.
Things might not have been quite so bad for the visitors as one of the goals they conceded was blatantly offside.
Unfortunately, the referee wasn’t able to confirm as much as, when he checked the replay using VAR, it turned out a gigantic Boavista flag was blocking the camera’s view of the goalmouth…
