Germany welcomed Spain to the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf in one of the more high falutin’ international friendlies to take place on Friday evening.

Somewhat quashing the expectant atmosphere, Spain nudged themselves into an early lead (6′) when Rodrigo slipped in behind Mats Hummels and lifted a finish over Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

That said, the real star of the show was the surgical through-ball from the grandmaster himself, Andres Iniesta…

The visitors’ one-goal advantage lasted roughly half-an-hour, right up until the moment Thomas Muller sent an emphatic 25-yarder screaming past David De Gea to level things up…

And that, dear readers, is the way it finished. Honours even.

Muller is just seven goals from becoming the all-time top goalscorer in World Cup history heading into Russia 2018.

It’s a tall order over the space of one tournament, but the Bayern Munich forward definitely looks like he’s getting his eye in.
