Spain made mincemeat of Argentina in a friendly at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano gaff on Tuesday night, with Isco in particular shining in a shock 6-1 demolition job.

Diego Costa opened the floodgates in the 12th minute with the home side surgically unpicking their hosts and running up a massive winning margin in the process.

Even David De Gea grabbed an assist, humping an 80-yard ball over the top for Iago Aspas to steer past Willy Caballero for Spain’s penultimate goal of the night.

Indeed, when Isco pounced on yet more horrible defending from Argentina to complete his hat-trick and score Spain’s sixth in the 74th minute, it proved the final straw for many Albiceleste supporters, including Lionel Messi.

Messi, who was forced to sit the match out through injury, made his excuses and vacated his seat…

Can’t say we blame him. It’s hard to tell if Spain were absolutely magnificent or Argentina were just utterly abject – though we have our suspicions.

Suddenly, that elusive World Cup title looks further away than ever for poor old Leo.

Not a man, a petulant, tax-evading child. He needs his strength for the Islas Malvinas banner. Rata del Mundo. So many expletives! He coulda had ’em all today! But no…just a sprinkle.

He told Lanzini, “I’ll see you in London over the summer.”

And there was much joy across all of East London, with many a pint consumed.
