It took a 90th-minute winner for Sparta Rotterdam to overcome lower league opponents FC Dordrecht in the Eredivisie/Eerste Divisie promotion/relegation play-offs on Thursday evening.

Having opened the scoring in the 10th minute, things were going swimmingly for Sparta right up until the 89th, when Dordrecht equalised through Stijn Spierings.

It should probably be noted at this juncture that Spierings is indeed a Sparta midfielder and the equaliser in question was actually a screaming 40-yard own-golazo…

Of course, the Sparta ‘keeper shouldn’t escape criticism either, given his staunch commitment to going with his head instead of simply giving an indirect freekick away.

Thankfully, Robert Muhren was able to just about spare his hapless teammates’ combined blushes by scoring again for Sparta in the final minute of the match, thus securing them a 2-1 away victory.

  1. Jonny says:

I doubt it would have been given as an IDFK if the keeper had used his hands – hardly a deliberate backpass…

  2. Bismarck Von Heidelschnüffer says:

Was the keeper actually trying to save it with his head??

As Jonny pointed it out there’s no way any ref would mistake that for a back pass.

He’s the biggest fool in this story
