A little good and righteous news to brighten up this dull afternoon: Mansur Calar, the Turkish player who was caught cutting opponents with a concealed razor blade has been banned from football for life.

Several days ago we featured Calar’s borderline psychopathic antics which came during a third-tier game between his side, Amed SK, and Sakaryaspor last weekend.

The 33-year-old midfielder could be seen grinning as he slashed Sakaryaspor players, several of whom shared images of their wounds on social media from the dressing room after the match.

Calar’s violence behaviour was greeted by a wave of baffled and appalled consternation when the video began doing the rounds outside of Turkey earlier this week.

Thankfully, justice has since prevailed with Turkish news outlet Hurriyet reporting that the Amed player has been “banned from all football competitions for a lifetime”.

The suspension was confirmed in a statement by the Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK), who announced they have punished Calar with “permanent deprivation”.

The PFDK have also issued fines and bans to both teams involved in the game after ugly scenes marred the afternoon. Several other players involved in the skirmishes have also been hit with four and five-match bans.

A lifetime ban from football is definitely a good start, but surely Pies can’t be the only ones thinking that Calar should probably also be facing criminal charges for his unhinged attacks too?

The Turkish economy must be raging for this idiot to risk his job. I’m sure there are a plethora of employers waiting to hire him, regardless of his mental state.

Although Calar’s act is unforgivable, it is important to note that AMEDspor had been the victim of an ongoing smear campaign by the govt-controlled Turkish media(due to the club’s and its fanbases largely-kurdish background). Everytime AMEDSpor plays an away game, the Turkish fans would chant “terrorists” at the stands. The police and the host teams have been very unkind on AMEDsport management and its football players at away games (such as beating players with batons or bombing their locker room with cockroach poison). A few days before the game, the Turkish president threatened Kurds with deporting them to Norther Iraq. The govt is simply using kurds as “the next enemy” to distract the country from the economic downfall and the ongoing democracy crisis and unfortunately Calar’s antics is only helping Mr.Erdogan’s politics of polarisation.
