Eintracht Braunschweig comfortably beat Meppen by three unanswered goals in the German third tier on Sunday, though the match didn’t entirely pass without a choice slapstick moment.

Five minutes before half time, winger Manuel Janzer was presented with a nailed-on chance to open the scoring for Braunschweig but somehow failed to breach the Meppen goal as it stood there gaping afore him.

To make matters worse, as Janzer curled up in a foetal ball of sorrow and shame in the six-yard box, he unwittingly managed to block the goalbound follow-up from his teammate…

Braunschweig then took the lead just two minutes later before a couple of second-half penalties fleshed out their victory.

Despite being Meppen’s best defender on the day, Janzer was replaced in the 67th minute and forced to sit and think about what he’d done for the remainder.
