As you’re no doubt aware, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting filed what might actually be the worst open-goal miss in all recorded, apocryphal and non-documented football history.
The PSG “striker” pounced on a goal-bound shot from teammate Christopher Nkunku to somehow prevent the ball from going in despite already being half-way over the Strasbourg goal-line at the point of contact…
You may think that there is no earthly defence for such ineptitude, but Choupo-Moting still did his best to exonerate himself after the game.
As quoted by GFFN, the Cameroon international told Canal+:
At the beginning I thought that he (Nkunku) was maybe going to give me a pass but he shot.
I thought that the defender was maybe going to take the ball and, after, I hesitated to take the ball, I asked myself if I was offside and everything went very quickly.
I touched the ball but it went onto the post and that is a real shame because I think that Nkunku’s effort was going in on its own.
I am sorry for that but we need to continue and keep our heads up.
“I’m sorry, my brain is made of room-temperature blancmange” would have probably sufficed.
