It’s Not Easy Being Green

Poor Rob Green. I mean that. I mean, how forking annoying that England should shoot themselves in the foot in a World Cup, AGAIN, but for Green to make such a rookie blunder in front of more than a billion people… well, I feel for him – he’s a decent bloke and a decent keeper.

Of course it’s a shame Fabio Capello didn’t have the balls to pick the man who has been brilliant in training (Joe Hart) but there’s no point getting all hindsighty now. A draw against our strongest group rivals – and a team ranked not very far below us at all – is okay, if disappointing. Now let’s beat Algeria and Slovenia: we really should.

Look at the bright side: this was a once-a-tournament disaster and at least now it won’t come against Brazil in the semi final

You’re right in your tagline, “No point slating England’s keeper.” There were so many more problems around the pitch other than that. What really annoys me though is that nobody on ITV would point out these things.

Lampard & Rooney were never in the game. SWP should never be coming on when Joe Cole is on the bench. Heskey made a great pass in the first few minutes…but other than that, nothing. Plus, Carragher looked like a liability when he came.

The fear is that Capello, the great man that he is, is too stubborn to change & that nobody in England will question him. He is not picking ‘by form’ as he said. If he was doing so, Parker would have been on that plane, Bent would be sitting on the bench, Hart would have started, and Dawson would have come on when King got injured.

As an Irishman who really wants to see England win the World Cup this year, as I enjoy watching these players every week in the Premiership, this is my only forum to vent my rage as it seems everyone else in Ireland wants England to lose. So, Capello has to change to 4-5-1, Rooney has to be up front on his own (or else he gets lost within this English team as we saw last night), Gerrard behind him (letting Lampard play as he normally does), and Barry & Joe Cole on the pitch.

Just as Trap is reluctant to add creativity to a team that will always get a draw at least, Capello seems to be matching that Italian way. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen because Spain, Holland and Brazil will tear the current team to shreds.

Simple fact: Argentina’s front line (Tevez, Messi & Higuain) scored a total of 105 goals for their clubs last season. England’s scored 39 and 34 of them were Rooney’s. Sure it’s one less player but England aren’t potent enough to win this.

Slovenia is looking forward to breaking some legs after what happened in Wembley. Algeria will be routed…for sure. But after that things won’t be easy. If I had half a brain, I’d pick Carrick to enforce. Barry is not tough enough. But we all know how this is going to play out.

This is hilarious – reason for all that noise during the match. Wasps!

Gonna be a goal difference battle, lets hope heskey just…well…jogs on

I agree its pointless and i dont think you can blame Green for 1 mistake when the TEAM had 90 minutes to win it.
