D-Becks scores against FC Dallas, with a little help from Landon Donovan and a lot of help from an incompetent/blind referee:

You think that might be a foul by Landy? Yeah, could be. Last time I checked, shoving your opponent off the ball wasn’t really allowed. Oops. Good of the commentators to spot the foul too.

Beckham’s well-taken equaliser kick-started a Galaxy fightback that ended in a 2-1 win, and with it the Galaxy won the Supporter’s Shield, awarded to the top points-scoring team in each MLS regular season.

It’s the first trophy the Galaxy have won since Beckham’s arrival in 2007, and the club’s first Supporter’s Shield triumph in almost a decade. About time.

The Galaxy now go into the playoffs as the top-seeded team in the Western Conference. Their first playoff match-up is against Seattle Sounders, with the first leg played in Seattle this Sunday (8pm KO ET).

Gotta love how the color commentator, despite talking for 60 seconds straight, makes no mention about the shove but instead fellates Donovan and Becks.

  2. Caleb says:

Listen, we play battleball here in the States. There is very little skill, and the refs pretty much let you get away with anything. At least Nigel de Jong will have a home if he gets thrown out of Europe…

  3. Matt says:

yeah Caleb, I’m sure any of the Dallas players would have gotten away with that shove on either of LA’s golden boys.

First time I watched I was thinking maybe the announcers had a side bet for how long they could go on without mentioning the push…if they did they won.

  4. stuart says:

regardless of what continent football – sorry soccer – is played on that’s still a blatant foul

  5. Samhumphreys says:

Was a little overeager from Lando but a well taken goal nonetheless, I stayed up to watch that game, which was a good game overall and was delighted to see Becks score a very well taken goal. Beckham for England :)

  6. Caleb says:

I guess my intended sarcasm didn’t show through. But my serious point is that this is the brand of soccer that is played in MLS. That’s why I called it battleball, because to call it football (or soccer) would be a disgrace to actual football. It’s terrible to watch, but this is what you get when you combine bad refs, lack of skill, and a society that is used to watching contact sports. It is what it is.

  7. Sgc says:

Further hilarity ensued on the broadcast at the halftime highlights, when the LA announcers parsed the vicissitudes of passive offside in order to question Dallas’s goal, but again made no comment on this one.

  8. Tim says:

So no other players in the world use their hands in that situation, right? Only yanks? Blame the refs for the no call, but I reckon you see that sort of play throughout the globe. It’s a physical game and this sort of play is not isolated to the States.

  9. Jay says:

I picked up on the sarcasm Caleb, and kudos to you to make this clear foul a bit light-hearted….I guess the refs are still learning to ref in this continent, as twas clearly a wrong decision to let play go on, which I bet the ref regrets not giving…..Great finish by Becks nonetheless

  10. Los Angeles Fan says:

Blame the refs, not the states. Don’t use this is an excuse to blast on MLS. So what if we are years behind the curve, we are getting there. Regardless, still a great goal! You only stop when they blow the whistle, come on – ya snobs across the pond know that!

  11. logan says:

Donovan is a C*** as bad as John Terry. Makes me ashamed to be an American.

  12. Marc says:

Landycakes has no skill. Sadly, this is still more than any of the US announcers. As a Brit living in the US for the past 25 years.. I can confidently say there is no place with more horrible sports broadcasting in general.. let alone football.

  13. takasato says:

very funny video, ha ha. that blackie being push by that whitie! that blackie fall like a clumsy bear falling down the earth!

  14. Didier says:

    The Drog says: That’s a F**king disgrace!

  15. gamblino says:

I dunno, he should have stood up a bit stronger than that if he wanted to see it out. Shockin that the commentators didn’t even spot it though. And there’s more atmosphere than that in my Gran’s front room.

  16. Matt says:

Ahh Caleb, —sigh—, I suppose the thinly veiled cannabilism masquerading as soccer in so many Brazilian games is more than worthy of being called football (or soccer {or fucheboll}).

But clearly I am not disdainful enough of the American brand of the game to be a true cognoscenti. Better get to work on the self loathing – the bar has been set high here.

  17. alex says:

i was at the game, and the reason they didnt call it was a makeup for the extremely offsides fc dallas goal. then again this is way worse but no one seemed to care. football crimez
