A triffic little report on Millwall’s relegation scrap in the George Graham era (early 1980s). The incomparable Danny Baker is your guide:

We learned today that Danny, the piratical genius of the airwaves, is battling cancer. This sucks, as he is one of the few broadcasters who know anything about football and why it really matters. Play up Danny – we are all right behind you, sir.

Danny himself is upbeat about the battle ahead: “Once the quacks have soundly thrashed this thing I shall return like a rare gas and as if out of a trap,” he said, as poetic as he ever was.

Absolutely gutted to wake up and discover this news. Been a huge fan of Danny for… God, over 20 years? Finding the podcast of his Saturday show was one of the highlights of my year to be quite honest as I’ve dearly missed Danny living in Canada as I do now.

I really hope it’s an easily defeated cancer!

    Get well soon Danny.

    Great hair in that clip!

As a Millwall fan this is fantastic to watch and also truly gutting about Danny Baker. The first football VHS I ever got was “Danny Baker’s Fantastic World of Freak Football”. I still have it and watch it from time to time, well worth a watch. Get well soon Danny
