Here we see Barcelona ‘keeper Victor Valdes moseying on back to his goal with his back turned as the play mills around in the midfield, only to be set upon from behind by a wild and sneaky Real Sociedad pot-shot that almost creeps past him unawares…

For the record, the game finished 2-2.

Muchos thanks to Kistengang for the nudge.

  1. CF4 says:

wow, that would have been a fail of epic proportions!

  2. Papi says:

Valdes is the most overrated keeper in world football today.

  3. Fabio says:

I dont agree, everyone makes stupid mistakes, Valdes is no Casillas but he has certainly been solid in Barca for a long-long time…and as far as saying he is “overrated”…come on, man.
Everyone talks about Messi and the perfect midfield, even Dani Alves gets more props than Valdes…overrated? No way!

  4. Sex God says:

    Ah yes, Victor Valdés.

Not even future potential Sex God understudy apprentice material.

  5. Fabio says:

But yeah, this is Barcelona we are talking about, so the fail would have definitely been of epic proportions. :D

  6. Papi says:

Given all of the underrated keepers, I would say he is very overrated. His deputy is no world-beater, either. Just because he plays for Barcelona doesn’t mean he’s world class. Overrated, mein freund.

  7. Papi says:

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m actually on the the same page as Sex God here, haha.

  8. Scott Mac says:

    Reina > Valdes

  9. :) says:

i don’t think valdes is rated by anyone. only reason he has a job is because-
    1. he’s from the youth set up (they make good outfield players…just not keeperes)
    2. he’s spanish
    3. he looks like the coach
    4. anyone could keep for barcelona-as much as i hate to say it, they are good

  10. dc says:

wow. this is clearly an epl based football website. valdes is one of the best shot stoppers and most solid keepers in the world and apart from this minor gaff, not at all error prone like casillas or (are you kidding me?) reina.

  11. Jax says:

Youre all morons, anybody who knows anything about goalkeeping knows that Valdes is the best keeper in the world, better than Casillas, better than Neuer, or anyone else you care to name

  12. Dave says:

valdes isnt caught out so much because barca are so good and never lose the ball…

  13. Varun says:

Clear sign that these peopel haven’t seen Valdez play, ‘coz they don’t watch much Liga, etc.

    I’ve watched nearly 80 % of Valdez’s 400 matches.
TIll 3 years ago, he was a nutcase disaster.

Today, there is not a GK in the world that is close to him.
Be it Shot stopping, coming of the line of distribution, This guy plays as a ball playing sweeper for Barca, more ball skills than English Midfielders combined (‘coz i watch BPL and i have seen)

  14. LOL says:

Jax, i’m glad you speak for EVERYONE else.. including me.

btw…. Neuer is a ot better then valdes and casillas is even better then both.

  15. leo says:

this is an EPL-centric website…figuratively, they still think the universe is “geocentric” (anglocentric) and will slate you if you suggest that any other country has a good football league, so much are their jingoistic insecurities.

  16. df says:

oh how i wish that valdes didnt see it and went in. that would teach barca a lesson.

  17. Valdes may not be the best out-and-out shot stopper in the world, but he fits like a glove in the Barca team because he is such a good sweeper. There is no better goalkeeper with the ball at their feet than Valdes.

  18. Jack says:

Credit to the CB who races back screaming at Valdes. If he hadnt been on the ball Valdes wouldn’t have noticed till it was too late. As it was Valdes reactions were superb and instinctive.

  19. douche says:

he wouldnt have almost been caught off if he wasnt constantly sprinting off to shout at the refs when barca doesnt get a call

  20. Don'tBuyTheSun says:

@ :) Reina is from the barca academy. They make great keepers. They just don’t know which ones to keep ;)

  21. Miguel - NYC says:

Keeper is the harder position to play for at Barca.
If anything, he is the most under rated keeper around.

  22. Twits says:

Funny how delusional la liga fans are. haha thanks for the laugh!

  23. Andy says:

Casillas > Reina > De Gea > Valdes
