After racking up just the six assists in his first three appearances, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain opened his goal-scoring account in his fourth run-out for the England U21s last night – notching his first, second and third goal against Iceland’s youngsters and generally stealing the show as England cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory in Reykjavik…

A hat-trick you say? In that case, we make it high-time that our nation’s exemplary free press burden the Ox with the weight of our collective footballing future and pillory him at every low ebb thus wrestling his confidence into submission and ruining him forever.

Not that I’m bitter or anything.

At least he’s not the new Walcott. For that, the entire nation can rejoice.

I actually agree, England’s youth is looking great.

England will not do well in the near future, so long as Lampard and Gerrard are both on the same team, let alone on the same pitch. I say stop selecting both of them for the national team, in fact stop selecting all the old boys. The supposed Golden Generation. They never got close to any accolade, I think their time has come and gone and it’s time for younger players to step in.

Spain did rather well, when Arragones grew a pair and stopped selecting Raul.

At least, stop giving these big headed duds automatic selection onto the national squad and perhaps use some foresight, so that we don’t have to be embarrassed when Heskey is chosen to be on the national squad. Especially when he’s been a dud since he left Liverpool.

Montesquieu there with an update from 2009

  10. Dale says:

@Patrick. Not sure what your point is. It’s the media’s fault that Walcott has spent, what, five years at Arsenal and all that time has barely improved as a player at all? What does he practice in training, because in all those years he’s barely improved as a crosser, a dribbler, at shooting, etc etc. He’s a joke. And that’s got nothing to do with the press, that’s all down to himself.
