Dangerous crossing is such an underrated skill and nobody, repeat nobody has ever been able to swing a salvo into the penalty area quite like David Beckham – as his assist for Mike Magee to make it 2-1 during Galaxy’s Western Conference play-off victory over Real Salt Lake will duly attest to…

Robbie Keane then rounded off the scoring with a nifty little effort to make it 3-1 and send Galaxy through to the MLS Cup Final against Houston Dynamo on home turf in Los Angeles…

oh thats so cute they have like fans and stuff…

  2. Grant says:

    It’s Mike Magee.

Thanks for the post though. One of these two teams will become the second most successful team in MLS history in two weeks. Here’s hoping it’s the Galaxy.

  3. Veej says:

Cant believe Kean still does that awful forward roll, gun machine celebration! Shocking!!!

  4. Grant says:

No problems, Chris. You’re clearly one of the only folks on your side of the pond who gives a toss about MLS, so we appreciate the press, even with the occasional typos.

Even though most seem to ignore it, the Galaxy have won two trophies since Beckham arrived in LA. They’ve now won back to back Supporters’ Shields, which are given to the team with the best regular season record. Since the last two seasons have been played with a balanced, each team plays every other home-and-away schedule, you could even argue that the Galaxy have proved themselves without doubt to be the best team in MLS two years running, regardless of the outcome of the MLS Cup in two weeks.

3 trophies in 4.5 seasons isn’t a bad record to leave. The Galaxy also have advanced in the Champions League this year and went to the final of the now-defunct SuperLiga tournament in it’s debut season.

Beckham’s brilliant. He could play until he’s 40. Just plonk him out wide, and get him to do this.

  6. Ron says:

Damnit, I hate living in the U.S. where the beautiful game and plays like this are ruined by having the stupid scroll across the bottom updating me on that shitty football game I hate. Fuck the NFL. And fuck those scrolling bottom lines. We all have the internet, if we want to know scores from other shit, we’ll check ’em.

  7. Papi says:

    Damn.

    Also, I second Grant’s statements.

  8. Marty says:

i literally only watch Keane’s goals for his celebration.

I remember when Robbie Keane was legendary at WHL.It’s great to see him doing well in L.A but what changed in his game that let him go off to struggle the rest of his career in Europe? Remember even Hicks and Gillette coughing up 20 mil to get him at one point, then boom, nothing.

@Ron, do you really have such bad ADD that you can’t pay attention to the 24/25ths of the screen because there’s a scroll at the bottom of the screen? Christ on a bike, man. Just be happy the game’s on ESPN rather than the steaming pile of shit that is Fox Soccer.

  11. Sex God says:

@ Grant, the bit on Fox Soccer, too true

  12. Michael D says:

@Grant – and here’s to hoping its LA’s ruddy, younger step-brother Houston that is lifting the trophy come 20 November :)

I think it’s going to be a great match, though I really wish Brad Davis (who really is America’s left-footed answer to Beckham) were available to play…that torn quad he suffered against KC will likely keep him out.
