It’s no secret that West Ham new boy Dimitri Payet garnered himself something of a brattish reputation in the years before he finally grew up and got his act together.

Several clubs passed on signing the winger during his formative years due to his ‘bad apple’ reputation, before Nantes took the plunge and offered him a two-year contract on amateur terms at the age of 18.

Due to the reduced wages he was on, Payet was forced to supplement his income and as a result took a second, part-time job working in a department store in Nantes.

Footage of Payet hard at work in the clothing section has since re-emerged over a decade later – footage that was originally broadcast by Nantes Report back in March of 2005…

A young professional footballer who actually knows what it means to work for a living. How quaint.
