What a crafty purchase Dimitri Payet has proved to be for West Ham. One of the most creative talents in Ligue 1 over the past few years, the playmaker has continued to shine since moving to the Premier League in the summer. However, at the weekend, the West Ham playmaker was the target of a meaty challenge from Everton’s James McCarthy, which has put the French international out of action for an expected three months.

The 28-year-old has since taken to Instagram to post a video of the challenge in question along with a message for Hammers’ fans…

We’re not sure if Payet posted the clip to have a pop at McCarthy over the challenge, which rightly earned him a yellow card, with little need for him to follow through with his right leg like he did. However, the player will definitely now have plenty of time to feck about on the internet over the coming months. As for Slaven Bilic and co, one wonders how big a blow losing their star man will prove to be (I’d say a very very big blow!).

A real shame that he got injured. He was full of promise, and essential to West Ham’s progress.

I can see them drifting down to 9th – 12th without him pulling the strings.

Bit of attention seeking going on I think. These tackles happen week in week out without players posting clips on social media. Get on with it you big girl.

50 50 tackle and clearly gone for the ball, man up and move on

ashame that a shit player like McCarthy takes out one of the best skilled pages in the league. why the best skilled players in world went play in the epl…

Because it’s the best league in the world. Watching those tarts in Spain falling over in a mild breeze and getting spanked 8-0 by Real & Barca every week bores me shitless.
      Italy – bent
Germany – only one team in it.
French – shite. Need I go on?

Bad tackle yes. Sad that Payet got injured. But in a split second McCarthy simply saw he could reach the ball with his left foot and made decision to go for it. Because of the momentum, and the angle (tackling from the inside of his leg) he could not stop his right leg following through (without cutting it off!) Remember it didn’t happen in slow motion! Accidents like this are inevitable in the high speed intensity of Premiership football. McCarthy himself was the victim of a similar tackle when he was at Wigan. He was out for 6 months, and the perpetrator (Fabrice Muamba) wasn’t even booked. In fact Howard Webb didn’t even give a foul!
