Wigan actually got off to a good start and we seem to remember them briefly topping the table at the beginning of the season – but they haven’t won a game since August 18th against Sunderland, which has now left them in the relegation zone.
It was always going to be difficult to replace a miracle worker like Paul Jewell at the JJB Stadium and Hutchings cause hasn’t been helped by injuries to key players like Emile Keskey, Danny Landzaat and Mario Melchiot.
Assistant manger, Frank Barlow, will come in as a caretaker manager for Sunday’s six pointer against Spurs while the search for a new manager begins. We’re not sure that Wigan have the players to stay in the top flight – do you know a man that can help them or will they be playing in the Championships this time next year?

  1. Sacking Hutchings was unbelievably pointless. He has been unlucky in recent games, was the Wigan board expecting a point against Chelsea???
Wigan’s expectations must be to survive, nothing more, they could end up falling over if they look up too high.
Hutchings needed more time, and when you consider the next favourite (Souness), it strikes me as being more panic-influenced than his actual appointment.

They’re relegation scrappers, so I can’t understand what they wanted from the Chelsea game,it’s bradford city all over again, jewell comes in, hands in notice, hutchings comes in and then gets sacked. It is very similar to Charlton Athletics decisions last season and Boltons decision this season. Hopefully they will install someon good, because if it isn’t there now why money to go down with derby.
They won’t be getting anyone like Jol and Mourinho for you high spirited Latics out there, they will end up getting someone useless like Sammy Lee, Glenn Hoddle or Graeme Souness. Hopefully Megson.

I heard it’s definitely going to be Souness – God help you Lactics fans
