With a mere wave of his hand (and two years of deliberation), England manager Gareth Southgate has now decided on the 23 players he will take to Russia this summer.

Of course, this meant heartache for the souls left behind, but several of those to make the grade have already declared their gratitude and excitement.

Marcus Rashford was one of the first World Cup-bound players to let his joy spill out all over social media as the 20-year-old striker gave his dear old mum a nudge…

Ashley Young followed suit shortly after, proving that donning an England strip at a World Cup is a dream he’s been harbouring for a fair old while…

Trent Alexander-Arnold also ploughed the flashback furrow with a photo that might have been taken a fortnight ago…

Kyle Walker revealed that he almost fudged his chance after missing a rather important phone call…

Meanwhile, good old James Milner took the chance to congratulate his Liverpool teammates on making the cut…

Nicely done. It’s just a shame he won’t be on the plane with them really.

Jamie Vardy went with an altogether more straightforward message…

While Sheffield United congratulated their former academy alumni using one horrifically embarrassing photo of Harry Maguire…

Yeesh.

  1. RPM says:

Why does the graphic you posted feature Twitter racist Barry Stanton instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold?

    • Chris Wright says:

Oops. Seems we took the squad list from a phony England twitter account. No points for observation.

      Amended now.

  2. Fnarf says:

Somehow I think the real England account could spell Dele Alli’s name correctly.

Not a terrible lineup. Stones will blow coverage as would Smalling if he were chosen. Group G will belong to Belgium sad to say.
