When Yerry Mina took to the skies to head home Colombia’s winning goal against Senegal, there’s every chance you might have felt the earth beneath your feet begin to tremor.

This was because Los Cafeteros’ goal was being commentated on by Javier Fernandez, a man famed for his booming post-goal roar.

Sure enough, when Mina’s header hit the back of the net, Fernandez let loose with an absolutely monstrous ‘Gol!’ bellow that lasted for 27 uninterrupted seconds.

The ‘Gol’ that greeted Mina’s goal against Senegal eclipsed Fernandez’s previous tournament record when he produced a mere 22 seconds of sonic assault and battery after Radamel Falcao scored Colombia’s second against Poland in their previous outing…

Impressive. Must have lungs like a shire horse, that bloke.

A second career in the Colombian national opera duly beckons.
