England will play in a World Cup semi-final for the first time since 1990 after they enjoyed a deserved 2-0 victory over Sweden.

The Three Lions were, as expected, the better side throughout and took the lead on the half-hour mark, courtesy of yet another set-piece goal.

This time it was Harry Maguire who powered home a header from a corner after weak defending from the Swedes.

Raheem Sterling was one of the better English performers on the day, but the Manchester City attacker failed to make the most of a number of great opportunities to score.

When Sweden threatened the English goal, they were foiled by Jordan Pickford, who continues to enjoy a superb tournament.

Pickford thwarted Marcus Berg via a superb save early in the second-half, as the Swedes looked for an equaliser.

However, soon after England would get their second of the game, with Dele Alli heading in a Jesse Lingard centre.

Sweden would test Pickford again before the end, with the Everton ‘keeper again producing a fine stop.

England would ultimately hold on to claim a deserved victory against an admittedly mediocre Swedish side.

Gareth Southgate and co. now progress to the semi-finals, where they’ll face Croatia, after what has been an incredible and unexpected adventure.

One more good display and a place in the final awaits the Three Lions. Who’d have thought that a month ago?
