The ex-Newcastle pair were arrested at around 11.30pm last night before being released on bail. Barton, 38, and Lee, 41, allegedly took the Mercedes E220 from a street in east London.
The car was found in the same road, after being involved in a collision with a van. The men were arrested later at two east London addresses. Police are also investigating reports that a satellite navigation system and a mobile phone were stolen from the vehicle. They refused to confirm the men arrested were Barton and Lee, but said two men had been bailed until mid-September.
