Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Sunderland – Premier League – 18th January 2015
Christian Eriksen once again netted a late winner for Tottenham, who remain well in the hunt for top-four finish.
Jan Vertonghen’s deflected effort opened the scoring for the hosts but Seb Larsson equalised courtesy of a fine free-kick on the half-hour marik. That free-kick had been won by the Black Cats’ new-signing Jermain Defoe, but the former Spurs man was unable to get on the scoresheet himself.
In the second-period both sides went close, with Harry Kane hitting the woodwork for the Lilywhites before Danish schemer Eriksen fired home at the death to secure a precious three points for the north Londoners.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men stay in the top five while Gus Poyet’s Sunderland are now 16th, just a point above the danger-zone.
