Genclerbirligi have sacked their manager, which is news that probably won’t come as much of a shock to you if you happen to follow the turnover rate at the Turkish club.
The SuperLig side dismissed coach Yilmaz Vural yesterday after giving the 62-year-old a whopping SIX DAYS to stamp his authority on the struggling team.
Indeed, Vural managed just one game in charge – a 2-0 defeat against bottom club Eskisehirspor on Monday – before he became the fifth coach to be fired this season by Genclerbirligi’s notoriously impatient president, Ilhan Cavcav.
That’s five coaches since the SuperLig season began on 17 August. In that time, Genclerbirligi have played 17 games, lost 10 of them and are currently squatting just inside the relegation zone – 16th in an 18-team league.
According to BBC Sport, Vural was sacked after having the temerity to ask to sign a few new players in the January window. The rare cheek of the man!
There is precedent for this, however. Cavcav has fired 51 different coaches since he first took over in 1981.
How do you say ‘itchy trigger finger’ in Turkish?
