Manchester United will face Southampton in the final of the EFL Cup despite losing 2-1 to Hull City in the semi-final second leg on Thursday at the KCOM Stadium.

Ahead of the game. the Hull players wore t-shirts in support of team-mate Ryan Mason, who continues to recover in hospital after that horror head clash with Gary Cahill last weekend.

2-0 from the first leg, United struggled to find their best form against a well-organised Hull side.

Tom Huddlestone opened the scoring for the Tigers on 35 minutes, via a spot-kick, after Marcos Rojo’s pulled Harry Maguire’s shirt in a crowded box.

While Robert Snodgrass was left out of the side for the game, ahead of his likely move away from Hull. However, in the second-half, ex-Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic made his debut for the Tigers.

Hull’s tails were no up, but after the break, Paul Pogba struck to make it 1-1 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.

United then hit the bar, courtesy of a Rojo header, while Oumar Niasse also struck the frame of the goal for the Tigers.

Then, on 85 minutes, Niasse fired home from a David Meyler centre to set up a dramatic finale.

However, Jose Mourinho’s men held on to book their place in the EFL Cup final on February 26.

As for Hull boss Marco Silva, he can take a lot of positive from the performance as his side get back to their Premier League relegation battle.
