On the very day that Kyle Walker-Peters has signed a new five-year deal at the club, it’s being reported that Tottenham are within a hair’s breadth of bringing in Serge Aurier from PSG.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs are hopeful of reaching a deal with Aurier sooner rather than later, with the Ivory Coast defender expected to sign a five-year deal.

With Kyle Walker flogged to Man City before the start of the season, Spurs are in the market for a senior replacement right-back and have £45million to play with – though Aurier is ‘only’ thought to be costing around £23million.

One minor stumbling block might be the fact that the 24-year-old isn’t legally allowed to enter the UK at the moment after being found guilty of assaulting a police officer last September, but the verdict is still in the process of being appealed.

He’s also said some fairly awful things in the recent past too, after being filmed aiming homophobic insults at both his manager and fellow PSG teammates last year – a decision that ultimately saw him banished from the first team for the remainder of the season.

In short, Aurier is a bloody good box-to-box full-back in both attacking and defensive terms, but he’s also a bit dim and doesn’t come without an awful lot of needless baggage.
