The UEFA president, Michel Platini, said yesterday that the European governing body must crack down further on racial abuse inside stadiums.
“We will be strong,” said Platini. “We will not say ‘please don’t do that’. We will not leave space for racism in football just like we will not tolerate fighting or violence. In the past clubs have been fined and we have appealed because we thought that the fines were not enough.” Asked if punishments could include clubs being expelled from competitions, the Frenchman said: “Why not?”
Do you think that UEFA will crack down on racist abuse? Too often we’ve seen mandatory fines handed out when expulsion or points deduction would have been welcomed. Are we about to see UEFA get tough, or is it merely rhetoric?
