As you may be aware, Fernando Torres has been dragged from pillar to post in sections of the media this weekend for supposedly calling his Chelsea teammates ‘slow’ during an interview with Liga BBVA while away on international duty with Spain – with Torres claiming that his words had been mistranslated into Spanish and then back into English again.

Yep, that’s what all the hubbub was about. You may well have garnered that Senor Torres made absolutely no reference at all to Chelsea’s ponderous O.A.Ps what-so-ever, just that Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge would offer a quicker, more ‘vertical’ style of play.
All in all, it’s about as offensive as Cliff Richard handing out lollipops and gumdrops to orphans of war – it’s little wonder that modern footballers give such anondyne, banal responses under questioning these days.
