A rumour that seems to be spreading like wildfire (whatever wildfire is), is that Sam Allardyce is leaving Bolton to take charge of Sunderland. Some bookmakers have even suspended betting on Big Sam for the post. Allardyce still has four years left to run on his 10-year contract with Bolton, but new Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn reportedly wants Sam to be his new manager.

Bolton have denied this, as has Allardyce’s agent. The club told the BBC: ‘We’ve had no approach [from Sunderland] – we’re treating it just as rumours.’

I know Sam played for Sunderland (see photo) but would he really want to drop down a division? Mackems, I presume you’d be ecstatically happy if Allardyce took over?
