Despite producing a superb second leg performance in Dortmund on Tuesday night, Jurgen Klopp’s German giants fell just short of cancelling out Real Madrid’s first-leg lead. Marco Reus struck twice for the home side,  after Angel Di Maria had seen his spot-kick saved by Roman Weidenfeller, as the Bundesliga side sparkled in the first period.

After the break Madrid, who had Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench, improved, although late on Henrikh Mkhitaryan did hit the post for Dortmund. However, ultimately, it was the Spanish giants who would move into the last four alongside Chelsea on the night.
