Many people’s pre-tournament favourites, Belgium look to be hitting form at just the right time. On Sunday night they secured a convincing 4-0 win against Hungary, with Eden Hazard superb throughout.

The Chelsea winger endured a disappointing 2015/16 Premier League campaign with Chelsea, but now the 25-year-old is back to his best. Hazard topped off a fine individual display against Hungary, by netting a superb solo effort, his first-ever goal at a major finals competition.

Hazard’s goal came on 79 minutes, with the score 2-0 to the Belgians, courtesy of goals from Toby Alderweireld and Michu Batshuayi.  Picking up the ball on the left (from the equally superb Kevin De Bruyne), the former Lille man danced his way through the Hungary defence before arrowing a curling shot past Gabor Kiraly from the edge of the box…

That goal came just a minute after Hazard produced a superb assist for Batshuayi…

To their credit Hungary did create a fair amount of chances but were ultimately outclassed by Marc Wilmots’ side, who are starting to look like the real deal.

  1. Jarren says:

It was a great performance, with some truly outstanding play.

But let’s be honest, Hungary threw caution to the wind and this allowed Belgium to run riot.

I doubt Belgium will be quite as comfortable against the likes of Germany or Italy (or even Spain).

Of course, Wales are next and they will need to think clever to avoid a similar fate to Hungary.
