The Citizens started brightly and dominated the first-half.

However, they sorely missed the clinical finishing of Sergio Aguero, with Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sané both failing to make the most of decent chances.

Chelsea would open the scoring against the run of play just before the break, with the superb N’Golo Kanté firing past Ederson after being set up by Eden Hazard.

In the second-half, the host improved as City again struggled to break them down.

With 12 minutes to go, the Blues scored again, this time courtesy of David Luiz, who glanced home from a corner.

The game would end 2-0 to Maurizio Sarri, with the Italian enjoying his first-ever win against Pep Guardiola in his fourth meeting with the Spaniard.

The win sees the west Londoners go Fourth after ending City’s 21-game unbeaten run in the league.

As for City, the shock defeat sees them a point behind new league-leaders Liverpool, who remain the only unbeaten side left in the top-flight.

This may not be the procession to the title everyone was expecting for Guardiola and co. after all.

Congratulations to Maurizio Sarri and his boys.

How lucky for Chelsea to play City without De Bruyne and Aguero. Anyway, it was a deserved win for the blues and good for the title race.
