With Ajax leading 2-1 and the game entering its final few minutes, it looked for all the world that NEC Nijmegen (or just plain old NEC to their mates) were going to be expunged from the Eredivisie yesterday, needing at least a point against the recently-crowned champions to stave off automatic relegation from the Dutch top flight.
Ajax went ahead in the 9th minute, though found themselves pegged back with quarter-of-an-hour remaining when NEC substitute Alireza Jahanbakhsh forced an equaliser.
Bojan Krkic then popped up to put Ajax back in front with just seven minutes left on the clock, thus leaving NEC staring into the abyss.
However, with just 120 seconds of normal time remaining, Jahanbakhsh crashed home his second dramatic equaliser of the afternoon and, bless him, it was all too much for one NEC fan in the crowd – who appeared to lose all control of his limbs and facial movements in a fit of pure, unfiltered ecstasy…
So, so happy. We’re only surprised he didn’t start barfing rainbows.
