This superb effort for Man City’s Toni Duggan proved to be the goal which stopped Chelsea from winning the 2014 WSL. Despite putting out a weakened side ahead of their FA Cup final clash with Arsenal next Thursday, the Citizens still proved too strong for title contenders Chelsea, with Duggan’s cracker making it 2-0 to the Sky Blues. Chelsea did get one goal back but ultimately it wasn’t enough (even against a 10-woman City side), with England striker Duggan’s goal proving to the match-winner as Liverpool ultimately retained the WSL title.
To paraphrase Andy Gray, “Take a Bow…erm…. Daughter”. Actually, it’s probably best not to imagine what Mr. Gray might have said about women’s football today.
