Red faces all around at the AJ Bell Stadium last night where Manchester United’s Class of ’92 were soundly spanked by the non-league club they all part-own.
Headed up by bona fide Class of ’92ers Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers, the United XI also included the likes of David May, Quinton Fortune, a newly-shorn Robbie Savage and Mikael Silvestre but still managed to get thrashed 5-1 by Salford City – the semi-professional club from the Northern Premier League Division One North which Giggs, Scholes, Butt and the Nevilles all bought a controlling stake in a couple of months ago.
For the record, it was Giggs who scored The Class of 92’s consolation goal, sitting the Salford ‘keeper down on his backside before clipping in an impudent Panenka penalty…
