Forgotten Wonder Goals: Paul Scholes vs Panathinaikos, Champions League, 2000
By Ollie Irish
Paul Scholes breaks out the loft wedge, vs Panathinaikos in November 2000.
Controlled yet nonchalant brilliance from United, with the tasty cherry on top supplied by Scholes. This is a rare finish in the Ginger Ninja’s canon – as we all know, he usually prefers to twat the ball into a new postcode. Because he can.

Bloody hell, I remember watching that on tv 10 years ago. I don’t think i’ve seen it since. The United team at that time were incredible. Giggs-Scholes-Keane-Beckham is probably one of the best midfield line up in the last 20 years.
Absolutely brilliant all round
Not forgotten by me! One of my favourite goals of all time. The build-up matches the finish, absoloute genius.
Saw this on RetroMBM the other day, Sheringham’s deft flick into Scholes’ path is beautiful, and what a finish. Can’t believe it’s ten years ago though, eeh I feel old.
lame goal….
Panathanaikos allergic to tackling or what?! Still a cracking build up, mind.
As much as I love to hate United, this was a truly fantastic goal. It reminds me of one of Argentina’s goals in the 2006 world cup, against montenegro:

Great goals.
hmmmmm…pass, pass, pass, pass, pass. Greater than Barca, I think.
