Hard to believe we know, but Tuesday night saw Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi make his Champions League debut with Tottenham on hand to provide his maiden opponents.

The Argentinian star gilded his first appearance in UEFA’s top competition with a superb goal worthy of marking the milestone.

With Christian Eriksen having pinged Spurs ahead in the 53rd minute via a massively deflected effort, Icardi levelled with just five minutes remaining when he slashed home a devilishly good volley from the edge of the area.

What’s more, Inter then went and widdled all over Spurs’ parade by scoring again in the 92nd minute, as Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino powered a header past Michael Vorm to steal the victory at the gong.

Definite bummer from a Tottenham perspective, having really done enough to win the game – but it’s perhaps only fair that that exquisite Icardi effort ultimately counted for something.

People praise and praise and praise Tottenham yet they can’t even win the Carabao Cup or beat someone in the Champions League. On the other hand, United was second in the league and it’s like they are the worst team on earth.
