Following in the footsteps of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, Brazilian international centre-half Miranda looks set to make the move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea, with the Blues preparing a summer swoop for the 30-year-old.

The Mirror tells as that Chelsea’s technical director, Michael Emanalo, travelled out at the weekend to watch the player in Atletico’s 2-2 draw with Malaga.

The Brazilian has been a key component of Atletico’s success over the past few seasons and with just one year left on his contract, he could be available on the cheap in the summer.

The Daily Mail adds that Jose Mourinho tried to buy the defender last summer as part of the deal which brought both Diego Cost and Filipe Luis to Stamford Bridge. However, at that time Miranda chose to stay at the Vicente Calderon. But now, it seems, the time could be right for the move to finally materialise.

With John Terry now 34, Jose Mourinho may see Miranda (hardly a spring chicken himself!) as an option to help divvy the load of a long, busy season and provide more competition in the centre-back positions.

We say this one is a strong possibility.
