Manchester City In Talks Over Emergency ‘Keeper
By Chris Wright
Manchester City held talks with the Premier League last night, in the hope of being granted permission to bring in a goalkeeper on an emergency loan to replace the injured Shay Given.
The Irish stopper saw his season ended prematurely by a dislocated shoulder sustained during City’s goalless draw with Arsenal on Saturday. The 34-year-old will find out today whether or not his shoulder needs operating on – a procedure that could see him sidelined for up to four months.
Given was replaced by Faroe Islands international Gunnar Nielsen against Arsenal, but manager Roberto Mancini obviously doesn’t fancy relying on an unproven goalkeeper for his side’s crucial run-in, as City chase that elusive fourth-place finish.
