Chelsea have snaffled up Mateo Kovacic on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, which is not bad – not bad at all.

The Blues have used the handy 24-year-old Croatian scrapper as ballast in the £35million deal that saw Thibaut Courtois move to the Bernabeu yesterday.

Speaking to his new club’s official website, Kovacic said:

I am really happy and excited to be here at Chelsea. It is an amazing feeling. I will try to do my best for this club.

It is a new league for me, the beginning is always tough but I am sure the coach and my new teammates will help me and I am looking forward to a great season.

Kovacic’s arrival is reportedly poised to spark a multi-man exodus at Chelsea, with several fringe players shuffling ever closer toward the exit door.

Collating bits and bobs from multiple sources, it looks like Tiemoue Bakayoko will be joining AC Milan shortly, with Danny Drinkwater, Michy Batshuayi, Kurt Zouma and Tammy Abraham all probable candidates for loan moves away.
