Ireland Fans Drown Out Croatian Counterparts With Rousing Rendition Of ‘Home And Away’ Theme Tune (Video)
By Chris Wright
In footage captured on the tram on the way to Poznan’s Municipal Stadium (or, as Balls.ie have it, back at the point when they were still ‘drunk and optimistic’), here we see a rabble of Irish fans attempting and largely succeeding to drown out the chants of their Croatian counterparts with a hearty rendition of a haunting Celtic folk ballad – the ‘Home and Away’ theme tune.
Y’know, just because…
The original, to compare and contrast…
Choon.

This is why I’d rather have Ireland progress, because they’re fans are wonderful.
Things like this make me proud to come from a convict colony.
We used the same song to outsing some italians at oktoberfest… it just works
Don’t know if ye spotted this! More shenanigans from us rambunctious Irish…

even when we lose . . . Ireland always win !
You’ll never beat the Irish.
Amazing! Even more impressed that the original is a sensual male-female duet, and it’s been converted into a soccer chant. How did this even get started? Who first suggested this song as a chant in potentially confrontational situations? How do so many Irishmen know the lyrics so intimately? I will be thinking about this all day.

*Their. Possessive. Because they are fans are wonderful, makes little sense
Now all we need is english and french fans singing the “neighbours” theme song!!!
@CaptainObvious Home and Away is an institution here in Ireland. There’s a college in Ireland that even has a Home and Away Appreciation Society. It’s the programme we all watch whilst eating our dinner
