Sporting Lisbon beat Gil Vicente 2-0 in the Portuguese top flight on Sunday evening, with Manchester United loanee Nani nabbing the second goal of the game by absolutely whelping one in from 30 yards out.
Indeed, the strike was so outrageous that the man himself couldn’t help but break down in tears at the sheer beauty of his masterpiece…
Nani’s weepy reaction was headline news in the Portuguese press, with his tear-stained face making the front page of the O Jogo newspaper…
“It was a goal like any other,” Nani told reporters when asked to explain his emotional turn.
“I received the ball, saw the goal, shot and I was lucky.”
“I thought about myself and everything that I have gone through. It’s personal stuff, that nobody knows about.”
So there you go.
Who knows? Maybe memories of this just came flooding back to him…
