As you may recall, back in December we brought you the joyous news that Kazuyoshi Miura had signed a one-year contract extension with J League Division 2 side Yokohama FC that would see the veteran striker play on well beyond his 48th birthday – making him the oldest professional footballer in the world.

Well, that 48th birthday has now been and gone, but ‘King Kazu’ is still banging in the goals – scoring with an impressive leaping header against Jubilo Iwata at the weekend despite being older than most glaciers.

Despite it being over a year since his last goal, Miura hadn’t forgotten his trademark celebration – marking his 14th-minute goal with a rendition of his famous ‘Kazu Dance’.

In fact, you can almost hear his hips creaking in the video…

All hail the king! Now, somebody get this man a cod liver oil tablet, pronto.

“I managed to get a good jump on the ball and it was a good header,” Miura said, after extending his own record as Japanese football’s oldest ever goalscorer.

Alas, it pains us to tell you that Yokohama went on to lose the game 3-2, undeservedly rendering King Kazu’s goal a mere consolation.

Damn shame.
